The Mateys have been working very hard investigating pumpkins! They became familiar with how to measure pumpkins using nonstandard units, they got to play inside the pumpkin patch in the classroom, they dissected a pumpkin, baked pumpkin seeds, and are growing pumpkins to learn how a pumpkin grows from a tiny seed! Planting our Pumpkin Buddies and creating our Shape Pumpkins is how we began this fun unit!Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate (:The Mateys really enjoyed learning why pumpkins float instead of sink.Some had never tried pumpkin seeds...so we had to dig in and collect some!And.....after the seeds were gathered we baked them!

The Mateys continued to meet several different community helpers. They met a principal, who taught them that all schools have something in common....Call Backs!!! They also met a former NFL player who is now a coach of one of the best high school teams in Oklahoma! They also met Coach Travis who is also a coach of the same high school! To top it off, we took a trip to a bakery to see how a baker decorates cupcakes, and then we decorated our very own cupcakes! Practicing drills on the ladder!Caeli's was indeed a sweet treat!We have had a very fun week. We have learned what a community is and how people work together to help others out. The Mateys are now more familiar with the jobs of several different community helpers such as a pharmacist, a dental assistant, a construction worker, and so many more!
